Ambra Giannetti

Ambra Giannetti joined as researcher the Institute of Applied Physics (CNR) in Florence, Italy, since 2004. She graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in 2001 and received her PhD in Medical physiopathology and pharmacology in 2005, at the University of Pisa, Italy. Her research activity is focused on the study and development of optical biosensors and biosurface treatment including drugs, antibodies, enzymes, aptamers and nucleic acid probes for the preparation of active surfaces. She matured her knowledge and expertise also working abroad as result of being awarded:

    • 1 month at the Fitzpatrick Institute for Photonics, Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, USA) within the program sponsored by CNR “Short Term Mobility” (2013);
    • 1 month at the Ecologic Chemistry Institute of the Helmholtz Centre, Munich, Germany, within the program sponsored by CNR “Short Term Mobility” (2009);
    • 1 year within the “Advanced Short Term Research Opportunity Program”, at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, USA, sponsored by the ORNL (USA) (2003-2004).

The achieved results during those activities and the matured experiences up to now bring her to be:

    • the Italian coordinator, in the period 2010-2012, for the bilateral project “Memory formation: effect of cholinergic system on local brain protein synthesis and its impairment by aging” presented within the bilateral program of Agreement between CNR and BAS (Bulgary).

She is Reviewer for the following international journals: Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, Biosensors & Bioelectronics, ChemComm, Cytometry Part A, International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, Journal of Biophotonics, Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, Lab on a Chip.

She performed teaching activities on “optical chemical and biochemical sensors” within several national and international advanced courses and workshops. She has been part of international commissions as international expert for several PhD thesis, Madrid and Barcelona (Spain) and as external consultant for the European project WINEBIOCODE at INESC, Porto (Portugal). She has been part of several evaluating commissions for post Doctoral fellowship and contracts for temporary positions at the CNR. She participated in several European Projects (Nanodem, Hemospec, Careman, CliniChip) and in other national and international projects. She has been reviewer and referee for the evaluation of national projects such as proposals under the Italian Ministry of Economical Development (MiSE), within the program “Fondo Crescita Sostenibile”.
